The start of the year I saw Hayao Miyazaki's newest masterpiece, The Boy and The Heron.

Or... How Do You Live?

Honestly, it was worth it skipping all the trailers, this movie is astounding!

Just seeing all the painted details in the backgrounds makes it so much authentic. There's a lot of animation projects trying to make things as "realistic" as possible, especially with Weathering with You recently. It's the little things that matter, it's why I absolutely adore impressionism as an art form.

The story was slow; that's the best thing about it. A lot of movies try to be as fast as possible, and so much of that would end up being pretty forgetful. This movie is a perfect balance, added with Miyazaki's direction of leaving long pauses between each moment (known as "ma" in case you didn't know!)

I was watching the dubbed version of this, and safe to say they did a great job!

Look, it doesn't matter which version is better, but switching between reading the clunky words and being engrossed in the scenary is like trying to look at a painting while looking at a wiki article about it at the same time. It's distracting! I'd rather be in the environment if I say so myself.

Also, Robert Pattinson was fucking amazing. I got him confused with Willem DeFoe, kinda strange how they're both in the same film about birds...

From The Lighthouse

Also, how the hell did Christian Bale manage to sound younger? I can't wait to do that when I enroll in acting!

Welp, just finished my delicious yaki soba as I'm writing this. I'm gonna do some essay work when I get back and also finish that lucario piece. The colouring's all that needs to be done!

Urgggghhh I hate gloom so much. I really feel depressed.

I'm gonna shake it off tomorrow, it'll be a brand new day and a brand new year! Plus, I'll get to see The Boy and the Heron!

grey skies and mulled afternoons...

Living in England is so much fun.

Well 'tis a saturday anyway, so I'll be more relaxed now. Don't really wanna overwhelm myself with a lot of work on the weekends, especially when 2024 rolls around. It'll be another hour for me doing my essay, but I'll spend most of my time on drawing instead. Last evening I got a bit cut-off after my friend called for a DnD prep meeting for my cleric guy, don't wanna blame her for that: I was happy that happened actually.

My morning was watching a nice film called Weathering with You with my brother, made by the same guy who did Your Name. Nothing much, execpt for the brillliant visuals and animation as always, it was just a sweet little rom-com between a boy and a girl....

...and a religious weather apocalypse thingy. Check it out if you can, you can find it for free on All 4 - if you don't mind a TV amount of ads.

Anyway... uhhhh... speaking of New Year's. I'm thinking about doing a Lunar New Year's post. Seems everyone is rushing out to draw a dragon, I don't blame 'em! Dragons are cool as hell.

Maybe I'll do a lil' dragon now...

Today's a Friday!

Yaayyy!

And I go back to college next week...

Boooo!

Today I aim to do some research on Sonic the Hedgehog, for my essay. I want to look at how and why the franchise is popular in the first place, looking at a character design standpoint, and what about him makes him stand out amongst the rest. I'll make this easier for myself by listing out some questions for myself. Maybe...

  • Why is he popular?
  • How did Sega manage to do this?
  • Did pop-culture at the time help this?

Again, this is just to help me stay on track while writing this essay. Though my autism/undiagnosed ADHD brain is fucking amazing and does it's job... it does doughnuts most of the time. So I need to kindly put some... discipline into it.

Anyway, get onto writing more of the first section in that hour... sort the notes into chunks... badabing... badaboom... you'll get a nice treat after this...

Oh! I also made some study sketches of Lucario last night! Check 'em out!

You can find most of my scribbles in my Reading Corner, where I post daily sketches. Right now I'm testing out some fine liner pens!

If you have any tips for me, please do mention them in the comments!

Otherwise have a nice day!

this blog is just to help me keep track on what I'm doing today.

28/12/2023

Today I am going to get on with my essay. Boring stuff, but when I get this out of the way, I can be able to do the stuff I wanna do! First, I'll make a summary of the responses from both of my surveys, then crack on writing the first paragraph. Afterwards, I will do more research into Sonic the Hedgehog, how he came to be and how this little fella is beloved by all.

After that hour is done, I'll go back into drawing! Right now I'm working on Thetageist's Mystery Meat collab. I'm not really a Pokemon fan, other than watching the OG anime and playing B&W, but I just wanna join for a laugh innit.

I won't spend a lot of time on it, it'll have to be good enough for me to do anyhow.

For this, I want to create a Riolu/Lucario/karate-pooch-thing absolutely petrified after punching his sparring partner a bit too hard. While, I do want to use my current skills, I'd also want to learn a few more techniques on a bit of rendering in Krita. Do suggest me anything that might be helpful!

(I might even join the Mystery Lover's collab too!)

Wip thingy

Now, starting this blog, this'll help me get into the groove when I continue this for about a month. And perhaps by the end of December, I'll also start a monthly summary of what I did.

Thanks guys!

By the start of the next year, I will hope to post more regularly on Newgrounds. I think it's best for me to start a monthly blog on my current status.

Just telling myself to "pOsT MOrE ARrRrTtt!!11!" won't get me far enough, but it's best for me to stick to a theme of some-sorts every week... though I tried to do that for Inktober.

I am making great progress in my art dump so I'm already in great hands at the moment.

With college and other stuff in a few weeks, heck even with my final final major project, it'll be best for me to post regularly on it.

Posting at the end of each day would help my perfectionism, otherwise I would be spending five hours a day just finishing a digital piece. Looking at YouTube tutorials will be good, instead of watching meaningless short-content crap. I am learning how to render and sketch on Krita. So... mid-afternoon on any free-day maybe good, or after college...

See it's challenging to come up with a schedule, it's a great way of forming habits. It's currently helping me with my scroll addiction.

Hey! This gave me an idea for posting blogs on here. I'll post a little task list every morning on my blog page, as well as a monthly one to help me get in track!

Any suggestions would be great thanks!

Emerald Delight

Before she set foot and changed her fate, Laura sat in boredom on the cold concrete patio. It was days after she and her parents moved to Hull, with some of the boxes yet to arrive. Despite being nine years young, her parents left her alone while they were busy with some papers.

Of course they were, Laura frowned her freckled face, couldn’t care less about me

She could have spent her time reading a Morpurgo book, if only those came with them. Worst of all, the wi-fi still wasn’t set up, so all she could do was… nothing.

The garden was not particularly interesting to her. The dewy grass was as tall as her knees, about a Wellington boot high. Along the side, remnants of once exotic flowers lost after a hard battle against the invasive weeds, ending in a bog of slimy algae. Near the bottom, muddy trenches of the vegetable patch stink from the rotten carcasses of pumpkins. Beyond no-man’s land, an old shed awaits.

It was only then, a tiny rustle among the tall ferns did Laura’s tiny ears it caught. She couldn’t care less what it is, but it was something at least. Slowly sitting up, she observed carefully on that thing. As she moved along, so did it too. Eyes focused and freckles scrunched up, she chased it down.

She ran past the flower patch, past the small pond, she couldn’t see what she was pursuing. Suddenly, her foot tripped on a ceramic gnome, gleefully sticking out in the mud, bringing her down face-first onto the pungent soil.

Holding in a sob, she struggled to get back onto her feet. Trying to push herself back up was a great effort, like a tortoise getting back up from its shell.

Soon as she wiped the mud off her hazel eyes, a shape of movement disappeared into the ancient gates of the Wendy house. Laura stood for a while piecing together what her trusty hazel eyes caught.

“Kitty?”, she called out. No response.

For a while she waited an eternal six seconds, hoping that thing would appear again.

Peeking into the decrepit shed, a strange emerald glow came out the ivy-covered wall at the back. She beamed in curious excitement, gleaming in glee even. What could this be? Quickly entering through the damp dripping interior, she followed the light like a moth to a flame. Her hands brushed away the ivy and pushed through, she couldn’t wait to see what treasure she could find! It felt like miles that web of ivy prolonged. Her hands kept itching and aching, but Laura’s volition helped her peruse the fiery copper light. Around her the passage warped and twisted. No longer did the walls were groveled dirt anymore, but glossed teak and peculiar patterns. Showing a tapestry of figures flying with curvaceous wings towards the exit. Until the vines were no more, and the carvings halted with a scripture:

“COME NAU O FÆRIEFOLK. COME NAU. KONIGRÜN AWAITS THOU.”

There! Laura halted and became breathless in awe. Glistening in the air, magic light of emerald and sapphire imbue the huge hall in divine glory. Bronze-like wooden walls, naturally grown with precision, sculpts the surrounding in elegance. Above, sparks of fireflies danced around in chaotic harmony, giving a peaceful atmosphere. Empty silence sang in a chorus. She could not be more delighted. Laura felt she stepped into another world, one full of magic and wonder. Looking around even more, she noticed three thrones at the far end of the nave. After she ran to take a closer look, she got even more curious. All had the same royal wooden sheen, almost as if they grew straight from the floor. The outer thrones had the same curly patterns as on the walls. But the middle, protruding out from the straight line of the other two, had thorns growing out of the sides. Laura looked around to see if there was anything else. A sign of life perhaps? Maybe even the thing she was-

Something appeared on the middle throne.

There, as if it’s sitting patiently, a bejewelled crown of emerald delight awaits on the throne of thorns...

Thank you very much for reading this, right now it's 12.55am in the UK.

I think I need to go back to bed now...

Maybe I'll dream some færies...
